All About M-Pass

  • What is M-Pass?
  • M-PASS is electronic toll collection, estrablished by Department of Highways, aims to reduce bottle neck problem at the tollgate and increase toll-way passengers' convenience. With the cooporation between DOH and Krungthai Bank , KTB is responsible for M-PASS cards distribution, Top-up system, account audit, and Cash Management System.
  • How M-Pass is outstanding?
    • Time saving for passengers who use route Motorway no.7 (Bangkok-Chonburi) and Motorway no.9 (Bang pa-in - Bangna)
    • M-Pass card include 2-in-1 function which can be used both for electronic toll collection and goods/services purchasing.
      • M-Pass Tag used for electronic toll collection.
      • e-Money card used for money withdrawal via ATM channel.
      • Purchase goods and service for all accept VISA card stores.
      • 0 fee for balance top-up via > 1,200 KTB branches, >10,000 KTB ATM machines, and KTB netbank.
      • 0 fee for cross-area transaction via KTN ATM machines.
      • Free M-Pass monthly statement via postal service to registered address.
      • Free SMS alert service when M-Pass balance is lower than THB200 and THB60.
  • Where M-Pass is applicable?
  • Motorway no.7 (Bangkok-Chonburi) and Motorway no.9 (Bang pa-in - Bangna)
  • How to install M-Pass tag?
    • Attach M-Pass tag to the tag holder.
    • Place the glued side against wind shield.
    • Try to place the tag in the proper position where the tag will not cover driving visibility.
    • Before the installation, clean up the wind shield, and make sure that the area is all dry.
    • Move the glued sticker from the tag holder, and place it to the wind shield. Press the tag against win shield for 10 seconds . Do not remove thw tag for at least 24 hours.
  • Which tollway path is for M-Pass tag
  • M-Pass path will be applicable in every right canopy
  • How many M-Pass path provided?
  • In the 1st phase, DOH will provide 1 way path for M-Pass passengers, in order to avoid the effect to the normal way path. And will increase M-Pass path in the future to match with passenger's demand.
  • When M-Pass will be officially operated?
  • M-Pass card system opened for the registration on 7th July 2015 at every KTB branches. The registrators who sign up at 50 indicated branches will receive the card once registration is completed.
  • M-Pass system was fully operated on 31st July 2015 started at 00.01 hrs.
  • How M-Pass is different from Easy Pass?
  • List M-Pass card (DOH) Easy Pass (EXAT)
    1. Tag type, and e-Money card - M-Pass include 2 wallets, firstly is M-Pass card for tollway collection, and secondly is e-Money card for goods&services purchasing
    - Money balance in M-Pass card and e-Money card still be owned by the card owner in form of electronic money.
    - DOH will recognize the tollway fee as income only when the passenger pass ETC path (Electronic Toll Collection).
    - e-Money card is one of VISA card network,
    therefore can be used at every accpeted VISAcard stores.
    - Easy Pass include only 1 wallet which is toll collection fee.
    - EXAT will recognize the tollway fee as income since the balance top-up be made.
    - Easy Pass Smart Card is used only for Easy Pass top-up without any other function.

    - More than 10,000 KTB ATM machine.

  • Is Easy Pass card holder be able to sign up for M-Pass card?
  • Yes, passenger can attach M-Pass tag together with Easy Pass tag, toll collection system will not operate cross-system.
  • Why M-Pass and Easy Pass are not merged together?
  • Because the legal term still not allow Easy Pass to calculate VAT via automethic top-up machine system. Furthermore the merging between thses 2 systems invlove with DOH and EXAT which require complex operation system, somehow M-Pass and Easy Pass are estimated to be cross- function within 2016.

  • Why DOH not provide top-up promotion?
  • Still not in consideration in the 1st phase.
  • Will M-Pass create more traffic in the 1st phase of operation?
  • In debut phase, traffic problem may occur. Somehow after the M-Pass card holders amount is increased, the traffic will be more clear. Because M-Pass can release 800-2,000 cars per hour, which is 2-3 times faster than normal toll collection system.

How to use M-Pass?

  • How many cards can individual sign-up for?
  • Maximum 2 cards
  • Why motinor at the toll path only show toll fee without showing card's balance?
  • To avoid confusion and accident that may occur among passengers, somehow we will send M-Pass statement to passengers every months. Furthermore, when the balance is lower than THB200 and THB60 there will be SMS alert to the card owners to top-up their balance. Beside, passengers can contact M-Pass call center for all 24 hrs.
  • How to install M-Pass tag?
    • Check if the M-Pass tag is already attach to the tag holder.
    • Place the glued side of the tag holder against wind shield.
    • Try to place the tag in the proper position without peel off the glued sticker yet.
    • Before install the tag, make sure that wind shield is already cleaned up and dry.
    • Peel off the glued sticker and install M-Pass tag to the wind shield, press the tag against the wind shield for 10 seconds. Do not remove the tag for at leats 24 hrs.
  • How to use M-Pass?
  • In the first phase, there will be only 1 M-Pass path at each toll path. M-Pass path will be on the right canopy.
    • Passenger should drive with speed of 30kms/hour
    • Each car should be at least 5 metes far from one another
    • There will be monitor showing the exact fee at the current toll station. (Please make clear that the monitor will not show the card balance)

Balance Top-Up

  • Top-up channel

  • Balance Top-up condition
  • M-Pass wallet
    • Use 10 digits M-Pass no. as Ref. no. for balance top-up.
    • THB1,000 is required as first time balance top-up.
    • Next balance top-up require minimum of THB500 per transaction, and increase every THB500 sequencely.
    • Maximum THB5,000 per top-up transaction
    • Maximum balance could be no more than THB10,000
  • e-Money wallet
    • Use 16 digits Ref.No. for money top-up (4848-XXXX-XXXX-XXXX)
    • Minimum top-up per transaction is THB100, not exceed THB30,000 per day
    • No limit top-up transaction per day, and no limit top-up amount per transaction
  • If the card holders do not have KTB account, can they top-up balance via ATM/ADM machine? How?
    • The card holders without KTB account cannot top-up M-Pass balance via ATM/ADM machine, unless the card holder use e-Money card for transfering money from e-Money wallet to M-Pass wallet.
    • If the card holder do not have M-Pass card, the holder can also top-up the balance by using 10 digits of M-Pass number at the back of the card. If the holder do not have M-Pass number, they can contact KTB branches or Call Center for acquiring the card information. The information will be required as the card owner's confirmation including name, citizen id or mobile phone no. When the holders can confirm the ownership of the card, they can make the top-up transaction via ATM/ADM machine, KTB branches, and netbank.
  • Can the holder transfer money from e-Money wallet to M-Pass wallet?
  • Yes, the holder can make the transaction via KTB ATM machine only.
  • Can the holder transfer money from M-Pass wallet tp e-money wallet?
  • No.
  • Can the holder withdraw or tranfer money from e-money wallet from others banks' ATM machine?
  • Yes, the holders can make transaction via others banks' ATM for over 40,000 machine
  • Can the holder top-up their balance via others banks' branches or via convenience stores service?
  • No, but DOH is now considering to expand service channel to others banks and convenience stores service.
  • Why can't card holder top-up their balance at the toll path?
  • Beacuse the bottleneck problem at the toll-path, making the top-up at canopy may create more traffic problem and also accident at the toll-path.
  • Are there any fee calculated for the balance top-up?
  • No top-up fee when making the transaction at KTB channels

  • Can the card holders ask to receive monthly report and receipt at required KTB branches without sending to home address?
  • Cannot, because monthly report and reciept will be sent out from KTN cente, somehow card holders can change postal address at every KTB branches.
  • Can the card holders request for balance summary of M-Pass and e-Money card from KTB branches?
  • Yes, card holder can contact KTB branches with no charge.
  • How can card holders be reminded to top-up their balance?
    • 1)Monitor at toll path will show "Plese top-up your balance" when M-Pass balance is getting low.
    • 2)M-Pass tag will alert twice when passenger passing the toll path.
    • 3)M-Pass system will send SMS alert to the card owners' mobile when;
      • 1st alert: when M-Pass balance is lower than THB200, SMS will indicate "Please top-up your balance"
      • 2nd alert: when M-Pass balance is lower than THB60, SMS will indicate "Your balance may not be adequate for toll path fee"

Problem concerning M-Pass usage

  • Why M-Pass tag don't work at the toll-path
    • The owner wrongly attach the M-Pass tag. The M-Pass logo should be place in the side facing the driver.
    • The automotive film is too dark or too thick.
    • Some passenger hold up the tag out of wind screen, instead of attach the tag at wind shield. Or the passenger didn't remove the tag out of M-Pass box.
    • The passenger should attch the tag at front wind shield.
    • Some modified automotive function may create disruption to the tag signal such as 4*4 Bigfoot
  • What to do if there are some problems concerning with M-Pass tag?
  • The holders can contact DOH One Stop Service center at route Motorway no.7 (Bangkok-Chonburi) km. 21+000 using the Motorway 2nd exit
  • What to do if M-Pass tag not working at the toll-path?
  • Press intercom button to contact DOH officers.
  • What to do if the card holders lost M-Pass card but still have M-Pass tag? Are there any additional fee for requesting new cards? Can the owner transfer money to the new cards?
    • Contact +662-111-1111 to seize the card account, and report the police. Then the card holders can request for the new cards at KTB branches.
    • The left balance from the old card can be transfer to new M-Pass card with THB100 as the new card fee.
  • What to do if the card holders lost M-Pass tag but still have M-Pass card? Are there any additional fee for requesting new cards? Will the balance still belong to the card holder?
    • Contact 1586#9 , and report the police. Then the card holders can request for the new tags at KTB branches.
    • The left balance from the old tag can be transfer to new M-Pass tag with THB1,000 fee.
